The Health of Canada’s Young People: a mental health focus is based on 2009/10 Canadian data and examines the mental health of young Canadians. Young people’s mental health is an important issue today and is strongly related to other health issues (injuries, high risk behaviours, bullying, healthy lifestyles and weight) and social environments.
The Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) study is conducted in Canadian schools every four years, with a view to increasing understanding of the total health of young people and the social context of related health attitudes and behaviours. It is the only national school-based general health promotion database of children aged 11 to 15. The study was carried out by Queen’s University with support from the Public Health Agency of Canada and Health Canada.
